Frequently asked questions
The questions people ask before they book, answered plainly. If yours is not here, send it through the contact form.
Booking
Getting an appointment
How do I book?
Use any booking button on this site. After a short contact step, you will continue to Headway, where you can see current availability and add your insurance for a cost estimate.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly without a referral from another provider.
How soon can I be seen?
Availability changes week to week and is shown live on the Headway page, so that is the accurate place to check rather than a claim on this site.
What if I would rather ask something before booking?
Use the contact form. Send a short note with your question and your state. Please leave out medical details — the form is for general questions, not clinical information.
Appointments
How visits work
Are appointments in person or virtual?
Virtual. All appointments happen by secure video.
Where do I need to be during the appointment?
Somewhere private, and physically located in a state where Steven is licensed — New York or New Jersey. Licensure follows your location during the visit, not your mailing address.
How long is the first appointment?
Longer than follow-ups, because it covers background and history. Follow-up visits are typically shorter and more focused.
What do I need to prepare?
Nothing formal. A list of current medications and doses helps, along with a rough sense of when things started, but you can arrive with none of that and it still works.
Treatment
Medication and therapy
Do I have to take medication?
No. Medication is one option among several, and some people work with Steven for therapy alone. Where medication is appropriate, the aim is the least amount that genuinely helps.
Can Steven provide both therapy and medication?
Yes. Both are available from the same provider, which means what comes up in therapy can inform prescribing directly.
Can prescriptions be sent to my pharmacy?
Yes, electronically to the pharmacy you already use. Some categories of medication carry additional requirements, and Steven will tell you directly if something cannot be handled this way.
What if my current medication is working?
Then the priority is keeping it stable. Nothing gets changed without discussing it with you first.
Cost and privacy
Insurance, cost and confidentiality
Is insurance accepted?
Yes, through Headway, which handles verification, claims and billing. Participation can differ by state and change over time, so confirm your specific plan on the Headway profile before booking.
What if my plan is not accepted?
Self-pay is available. Current rates are confirmed directly before scheduling.
What happens to what I share in the contact form?
It is used to answer your question and follow up with you about care. It is a general inquiry form, not a clinical record, which is why we ask you not to include medical details. Clinical information belongs in Headway and in your appointment.
Can I stop receiving follow-up messages?
Yes, at any time. Reply STOP to a text or use the unsubscribe link in an email and messaging ends.
