Getting started
What to expect
Reaching out is often the hardest part. Knowing what happens next makes it smaller.
The first appointment
Steven describes initial sessions as simple and laid back. You explain what has been going on and what you want out of treatment. He asks questions to fill in the picture. Together you set goals that are achievable rather than aspirational.
You do not need to have your thoughts organized in advance. You do not need the right vocabulary. Saying "I do not really know how to describe it" is a completely normal way to begin.
Roughly how it flows
A first appointment usually runs longer than later ones. Expect time on background and history, time on what is happening now, and time at the end on what to do next. Follow-up appointments are typically shorter and more focused.
Worth having ready
Helpful, but not required
Current medications
Names and doses of anything you take, including from other providers. A photo of the bottles works fine.
A rough timeline
When things started, what has changed, and anything that seemed to make it better or worse.
What you want
Even loosely. "Sleep through the night" or "stop dreading Mondays" is a perfectly good starting goal.
What you will not get
Things that will not happen here
- Being rushed through a symptom checklist
- Being handed a plan you had no say in
- Being judged for what you say or have not done
- Being pushed onto medication you are not comfortable with
- Being told a guaranteed outcome or timeline
- Being made to repeat your whole history at every visit
If you are in crisis right now
Do not wait for an appointment. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 if there is immediate danger. This practice does not provide emergency or around-the-clock care.
Two ways forward
You do not have to be certain to take a step
Some people are ready to put an appointment on the calendar. Others want to understand the details first. Both are welcome here.
Start your booking
Headway is where appointments, insurance and billing are handled. You will see current availability, add your insurance for a cost estimate, and choose a time that works.
Book an appointmentA short contact step comes first, then Steven’s live Headway schedule.
Ask before you commit
Plenty of people want to understand how virtual care works, whether their plan is accepted, or what a first appointment is like before booking anything. Send a short note and we will answer.
Ask a questionNo appointment required. Please leave out medical details.

Next step
